Get To Know Me

Hi, I’m Liz.

I am passionate about helping individuals who feel disconnected from themselves and others, who feel overwhelmed or empty even when their lives appear to be functioning relatively well from an outside point of view.

Approach to Therapy

My approach to therapy is relational and collaborative, helping individuals enhance their ability to sit with discomfort and cope without having to constantly escape through avoidance or distractions. I work best with people who have the desire to engage in longer term therapy which allows us to take time to explore underlying patterns and ways of being, connect to the innermost self, and create meaning in life. At times, long term therapeutic work is not feasible for a multitude of reasons, and when this is the case, I am also able to work with people on a shorter term basis. As long as the willingness to engage in the process is present, I find that there is no timeline on progress.

The basis of my work is founded on guiding principles such that you are the expert in your life, and as a therapist I will work alongside you to explore past experiences that have shaped your current functioning. Together we can work toward being deeply present in day-to-day existence, building awareness and more effective ways to cope that feel in alignment with who you want to be.

My goal is to offer a safe space for you to be seen and heard without judgment, as a source of support on your journey to healing.

Professional Background and Training

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and have been in this field for over 10 years after graduating with my Master’s in 2015. Within the past decade, I have worked in community mental health, K-12 schools, private practice, and higher education. Throughout these different settings with such a variety of clients, I honed my therapeutic approach to center on humanistic, existential, and psychodynamic theoretical orientations.

Additionally, I have training in mindfulness and somatic approaches, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These approaches and skills aid in strengthening the mind-body connection to become more grounded and at peace in everyday life.

About Me

The relationship you have with a therapist is vital, as it is the foundation for trust, honesty, and transparency throughout the therapeutic process. Being vulnerable and processing your feelings can be tough, and it's important to feel comfortable and safe with the person you are working with. Part of the therapeutic relationship entails knowing a little about me as we will be spending a lot of time together. Outside of work, I enjoy being with friends & loved ones and spending time with my extremely playful cat. I am a coffee lover, find peace being in nature, and enjoy reading and hiking (being in the Hudson Valley, this is probably not surprising!).

If we seem like a good fit and you’d like to know more about potentially working together, I’d love to connect with you.
